Every UVM student is a member of the Outing Club! We openly invite all UVM students to come to the OC house, sign up for a trip, eat some food and stay for a meeting!

Founded in 1932, the mission of the University of Vermont Outing Club is to provide affordable wilderness trips, instruction, leadership training and certification opportunities for students. We also provide a comprehensive array of affordable rental equipment to the UVM community. It is our further goal to promote enjoyment, safe use and responsible stewardship of the environments we travel in through practice of Leave No Trace principles.

A Great Start to Spring 2010

All Outing Club programs are under way and our trips have been hitting the backcountry in full force! So far this winter, we've seen leader refreshers, Mad River Glen telemark ski days, a Winter Waterfall tour and too many others to rattle off. Even though the ground is brown in the Burlington, the snow has been great in the mountain. Rumor has it that Mt. Mansfield has 5 feet of snow in some places!

WILD (Wilderness Instructor Leadership Development), Ice SMAC (Site Management & Anchor Construction) and BSAAP (Backcountry Skiing & Avalanche Awareness Program) are all in full swing, training Outing Club Leaders of the future.

What's on tap for this weekend...
  • Backcountry Skiing at Big Jay
  • Snowshelter Building at Sterling Pond
  • Learn to Telemark at Mad River
  • Backcountry Snowboarding
Trips are filling fast, so come by the Outing Club House to sign up and reserve your spot today. Check out our Program Brochure to hear about what other cool things are happening in the club this semester!
